a couple words about us to start with, if you haven’t heard
about our furniture and our philosophy. Two words, which best represent
us: design and ecology. Think of them together, because together they
make for excellent design. Always striving to embody sustainability,
using resources in a responsible way, with respect for nature and
human labor. Nowadays, sustainability has become a common idea, and
we are happy about this. We started thinking about it back in 1996.
And we would like to show the results of our far-sightedness.
wood we use comes from European and Bolivian
forests, both of which respect the same standards regarding the commerce
of wood, with the guarantee that the lumber is produced so that the
forests can regenerate.
The design phase rests on this awareness and the control of the production
phases which serve both as the starting point and the crowning achievement.
Our furniture is designed to be essential and functional,
Most of our pieces are fully jointed, with the joints in full view,
which underline the way they are assembled. Some designs are not even
jointed, but the elements are simply placed one on top of another,
like our solid wood bookcases, made of two modules plus shelves of
different dimensions. We strive for the greatest simplicity and the
greatest lightness. It is no surprise that we started with plywood,
designing 10kg bookcases which can support 300kg.
Today our catalogue includes furnishings for every room, from the
living room to the study to the bedroom to the kitchen, as well as
TotemBuild, to construct entire environments including partitions,
walls and stairways, out of plywood. Since 1999 we have produced a
line for children and preschools. These products are stackable, light-weight,
easy to assemble, and be used to create enclosed or open environments,
depending on how the elements are arranged and the different materials.
We continue designing and thinking up new ideas, inspired by our passion
for function and sustainability.
Take a look, and leave us your comments! We appreciate them!
furniture rulebook (according to us)
Everybody talks about natural, sustainable or ecological furniture
these days, often without even specifying what makes them so, trying
to appeal to the increased sensibility of consumers to these topics,
as a marketing strategy.
In our opinion, the criteria to define what makes a piece of furniture
eco-friendly are numerous and rigorous.
These are the ones we uphold:
1. Eco-friendly furniture has to be made of natural materials, not
necessarily recycled ones. Although recycling doesn’t use up
natural resources, they are not quality materials and they are not
produced respecting environmentally friendly standards.
2. Eco-friendly furniture is high-quality and has to be long-lasting:
its long useful life generates less waste, with real benefits for
3. Eco-friendly furniture is made from well-managed forests, where
the cutting is planned.
4. Natural furniture resects the communities of people who live in
forest regions, and have often lived there for centuries, for whom
the forest is a source of richness and a necessity for survival.
5. All of our furniture can be disassembled for transport and storage
and the packaging is minimal so as to reduce waste.
6. We avoid using screws and metal elements that wear down over time,
making the joints and the furniture weak. Our furniture is designed
to be assembled and disassembled time and time again, without the
joints losing efficiency.
7. Everything we design is meant to be used for a long, long time.
8. Furniture should be transformable, according to the size and shape
of the space it is placed in. This is why many pieces are modular:
bookcases can be modified and enlarged or reduced by adding or removing
modules; children’s furniture transform so that they can be
used for a longer period of time; drawers and containers can be recomposed
or added to in order to create new items.
9. Our furniture is lightweight because the materials we use are lightweight.
But their construction makes them very strong and robust, able to
support 30 times their weight.
10. The materials are recognizable. The surfaces can be colored or
polished, using natural finishes or oils, without altering their appearance.
